Your rug gets inspected, dusted, hand washed, and slow-dried at our shop on West Atlantic Avenue — never blasted with carpet equipment in your living room. Serving Delray Beach since 1997, with free pickup and delivery from Pineapple Grove to Tropic Isle.
The difference that matters
A hand-knotted rug and wall-to-wall carpet have almost nothing in common. One is nylon glued to a backing; the other is wool or silk tied knot by knot, often colored with dyes that were mixed decades before Atlantic Avenue had a single café table on the sidewalk.
Truck-mounted steam equipment treats both the same way. On carpet, that’s fine. On a Persian rug it can bleed the reds into the ivory field, shrink the wool, and leave the foundation wet for days.
A rug that matters deserves a wash, not a steam blast.
In our shop the process is built around the rug in front of us: the fiber, the dyes, the age, the condition. That takes longer than an in-home cleaning, and it should — a rug that survives a hundred years of feet deserves an afternoon of patience.
And when a rug genuinely doesn’t need the full treatment — a synthetic machine-made piece, say — we tell you straight, because charging fine-rug prices for a bathmat is not how we’ve lasted in Delray since 1997.
Rugs we clean
Every rug below gets the same first step — a free inspection and dye test — and then a wash matched to what it actually is.
The heart of the shop since 1997: hand washing matched to fiber, dye, and age — never truck-mounted steam.
Hand-knotted heirlooms with dyes that deserve respect. Dye-stability tested before a drop of water touches the pile.
Gentle solutions and a scrub in the direction of the pile, then slow drying so the wool keeps its body.
An even lighter hand: fragile silk pieces are washed flat and dried away from direct heat.
Older vegetable dyes bleed if treated carelessly, so antiques get the gentlest wash that will actually get them clean.
Deep pile traps beach sand and pet hair. We dust it out first, then wash and dry the pile all the way through.
Room-size and custom pieces dry flat at the shop with air movers on all sides — no folding, no shortcuts.
Five steps, no shortcuts
Fiber, knots, dyes, wear, pet damage. We test dye stability before a drop of water touches the pile, and you get one honest price before work begins.
Delray’s sandy grit works deep into a rug’s foundation and grinds away at the knots. We beat the dry soil out first — washing over sand just makes mud.
A hand wash matched to the rug: gentle solutions for wool, an even lighter touch for silk and antiques, a soaking bath when urine salts have to come out.
Slow, controlled drying with air movers — flat or hung on our rack — until the foundation is bone dry. In Florida humidity, this is the step nobody should rush.
Pile brushed, fringe combed, final check against the intake notes. Then we bring it home and roll it out where it belongs.

Straight pricing
Because we’d have to guess, and guessing is how rug owners get burned.
Two rugs the same size can be completely different jobs. A machine-made polypropylene piece from a Boca showroom and a hand-knotted Tabriz that came down through the family need different washing, different handling, and different care — and a phone estimate can’t tell them apart.
So we look first. Then we quote. Then the number doesn’t move.
The evaluation is free, whether you bring the rug to West Atlantic Avenue or we pick it up from your home. If a repair isn’t worth doing, or a rug isn’t worth washing, that’s exactly what we’ll say.
More than washing
Fringe chewed by the dog, edges frayed by beach sand, a hole from a planter that leaked all season — most damage we see in Delray homes can be repaired at the same shop that washes the rug, by the same hands.

Straight answers
Not always. Steam equipment built for synthetic carpet can bleed dyes, shrink wool, and leave a fine rug soggy. A rug that matters should be washed in a shop, where every step matches the fiber. If your rug is machine-made and can safely be cleaned at home, we say so.
Yes. In South Florida’s humidity, a thick wool rug that stays damp too long can develop mildew and a musty smell. We dry rugs in a controlled space with air movers — flat or hung, depending on the rug — until the foundation is completely dry, not just the surface.
We price after we see the rug, not before. Size, fiber, construction, dye stability, pet contamination, and any repairs all change the work involved. Once we inspect the rug you get one clear number, and it doesn’t move. If cleaning isn’t worth the cost for that rug, we tell you.
Yes — pickup and delivery is free throughout Delray Beach, including Pineapple Grove, Lake Ida, Tropic Isle, and Seagate, plus nearby Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, and Highland Beach.
Yes. Silk, antique, and vegetable-dyed rugs get a dye-stability test before anything else, then the gentlest wash that will actually get them clean. Fragile pieces are handled flat and dried away from direct heat.
Then we tell you before any money changes hands. Some machine-made rugs cost more to wash properly than they cost to replace. We’d rather lose that job and keep your trust — most of our customers came through a neighbor’s recommendation, and that only works if the advice is honest.
Most rugs are back home in about a week to ten days. Drying can’t be rushed in Florida humidity, and repairs add time. We give you a real date at pickup and call if anything changes.
