Is this rug worth repairing?

That’s the first thing we work out — before technique, before price. A hand-knotted Persian with fifty good years left is almost always worth saving. A machine-made rug with a failing backing usually isn’t, and we’ll say so even though it costs us the job.

Repair should protect value, not just spend money.

When a piece has family history, the math changes — some rugs are kept for reasons no appraiser can price, and we respect that. Our job is to give you the honest condition, the honest cost, and let you decide with real information.

Repairs we do by hand at the shop

Sides & fringes

Rebuilt side cords and secured edges stop a small fray from unraveling rows of knots. Worn fringe is repaired where possible, replaced where it isn’t.

Holes & moth damage

Holes are rewoven to match the surrounding pattern — warp, weft, and pile. Moth-eaten areas are cleared, treated, and rebuilt before the damage spreads.

Dry rot

Florida moisture plus time can rot a cotton foundation until it cracks like cardboard. Affected sections are reinforced or rebuilt so the rug can be used again.

Resizing

A rug that’s right in every way but the size can be cut down and refinished cleanly — common when a rug moves from a big family house into a Delray condo.

Complete restoration

For antique and inherited pieces: structural repair, reweaving, and color work done stage by stage, with photos and approval at each step.

Repair after cleaning

No two repairs are alike, so we don’t quote from a chart. We look at the rug — free, at our shop or your home — and give you a firm price for exactly the work it needs. Where there’s a cheaper option that still protects the rug, you’ll hear it from us first.
